"Growing up in the Harwood household, autonomy wasn’t just a value - it was a way of life. Dinner conversations often turned into collaborative projects sprawled across the kitchen table, sparking innovation, debate, and camaraderie.
From a young age, I was fascinated by the lively characters who visited our home. One man stood out with his quiet confidence, often relaxing by the fire, lighting his cigar with a cinematic flair - a true icon in my young eyes.
My father, Guy Harwood, is the most innovative person I know. He revolutionised horse training at Coombelands Farm in West Sussex, introducing features like an indoor warm-up track, a pool, and advanced bloodwork facilities. He even pioneered "benchmarking" horse health through blood analysis - sheer genius.
In my career as a Data Analytics Manager at KPMG, I came to fully appreciate the scale of my father’s achievements. I worked on real-time public transport systems, similar to Uber tracking but for buses, featured on platforms like CityMapper.
Though rewarding, the work led to burnout. Drawing became my outlet, encouraged by my therapist, Dr Olena Edwards-Skadowska, who helped me reconnect with balance through art.
Dancing Brave at the Eclipse Stakes became a personal muse - a reflection of my own journey of highs, lows, and resilience. Creating a graphite portrait of him, The 1986 Eclipse Stakes, was deeply meaningful, symbolising triumph and legacy. We both started out as very backwards yearlings, who through undulating ground find their ways to the 'top stable' block.
After a narrow defeat in the 1986 Derby, Dancing Brave claimed stunning victories, including the Eclipse Stakes, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. His story is one of hope and triumph for all who persevere and one it would be hard to not fall in love with!
Growing up surrounded by stories of Dancing Brave's remarkable tale, I waited until my craft had developed enough to truly do justice to his legacy. I’m incredibly proud of this portrait and hope it will be gifted as a symbol of victory in the years to come.
I now focus on bespoke commissions, valuing the often exclusive and deeply personal connections that comes with bringing an owner's visions to life. I care about meticulous attention to detail and emotive artistry, so to capture the essence of these animals, their lives and greatest moments.
The '2024 CHRISTMAS LIMITED EDITION' print a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire one of my pieces. The original artwork 'The 1986 Eclipse Stakes' is aiming for exhibition and sale at the prestigious Atkinson Gallery in 2025."

"Dancing Brave’s greatest attribute was his acceleration. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horse accelerate like he could over a mile and a half. He was a freak in that respect.

COMMISSIONS
I have 5 commission spots left for racehorse portraits during 2025, making Christmas the perfect time to start a conversation. Reach out if you would like me to join in on an owners morning.
Some art collectors come with a clear image in mind, while others start with a location—on the track, in the yard, alongside the owners, jockey, or trainer. My personal favorite? Capturing the magic on the gallops on a crisp winter’s morning. Wherever your inspiration lies, we’ll work together to find the perfect moment to create something truly special.
